they did at the time, although I prefer to leave symbolism to the viewer because it amazes me how people will find various ways to relate the art to themselves, its beautifully connected when that happens. This work was an emotive piece about my elder sister who was assaulted by a serial killer, who attempted to rape her, but she fought, so he stabbed her, puncturing a lung, leaving large scars emotionally and physically. I was very, very upset and taken aback by the real violence and brutality of this act towards my sister, in our home and the offense from male to female, that has be a recurring symptom of the male sex for longer than I am aware of. The hands I suppose, at the time, were symbolic as weapons, but I'm sure there's more to it, because this was a very intuitive drawing with absolutely no planning or thought, beyond anger, and fear.

I really don't know how to express my compassion in english :S...
I'm really really sorry for your sister.

I cannot imagine what I would do, if this would happen to my (little) sister...

...now I can understand why the hands are so big...
...although this artwork now looks really cruel to me.

Sorry for my bad english, I could certainly express this better in german... >.>
